Chaney Community Commercial Rezoning Request Update

Chaney's attorney submitted written testimony from four different witnesses to support Community Commercial Rezoning.  A quick summary was traffic information, jobs created (prediction), and compatibility, We will request copies of that information to learn the specifics.  Approximately 30 people were in attendance.  Only five spoke, all opposing the rezoning.  The public record is being held open until June 3, 2009.  This is an additional chance to submit testimony to keep big box stores out of Hughesville and support the revitalization plan.  I know everyone is sick and tired of this whole situation, but, we must see it through to the end.  We must defend our quality of life in Hughesville.  If we don't, there is no one who will.

On a side note, we witnessed county planning staff member, Reed Faasen, approach Audrey Scott, Chaney employee, and hug her, prior to the commencement of the public hearing. Seems very familiar and inappropriate given the circumstances of this hearing and felt like a slap in the face to those opposing this request...just sayin'

Another observation: There was only one question asked by any of the commissioners about the rezoning request - Cooper wanted to know if there would still be free land for CSM tied to the request. The answer - sure, if needed. In my book, that's a bribe.
